Neelam Shami Rao has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles Neelam Shami Rao has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under the leadership of Shri Giriraj Singh. A seasoned IAS officer of the 1992 batch (Madhya Pradesh Cadre), she brings a wealth of experience from her distinguished career across various key government departments.

Before joining the Ministry of Textiles, she served as Secretary at the National Commission for Minorities, Ministry of Minority Affairs, and held leadership roles such as Central Provident Fund Commissioner at EPFO and Director General of Training in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Her early career saw impactful tenures as District Collector in Guna and Koria, Madhya Pradesh.

An alumna of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, with a B.Tech in Electronics, Smt. Rao has been instrumental in driving significant reforms, particularly in EPFO, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and service delivery.
