Garment manufacturing hub stresses on producing skilled garment workforce

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has inked a deal with Directorate of Technical Education for skilled operators in the readymade garment (RMG) manufacturing industry.

BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir and Project Director of STEP ABM Azad signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations in presence of BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman.

BGMEA Director Md. Munir Hossain, deputy project director Md. Nuruzzaman and program officer Dr. Md. Anwarul Hoque were also present at the ceremony.

As per the MoU, BGMEA in collaboration with Directorate of Technical Education will implement the Skill and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) where young people will be given training in garment sewing and knitting.

Markedly, the garment industry accounts for 83 percent of total export earnings of Bangladesh. Also, it employs nearly 4 million people.
