KPR Mill Announces ₹450 Crore Odisha Expansion with 45 Million Garments Annual Capacity

New greenfield facility in Khordha to produce 45 million garments annually and create around 5,000 direct jobs

KPR Mill Limited is set to strengthen Odisha’s emerging position as a textile and apparel manufacturing destination with a proposed ₹450 crore greenfield Ready-Made Garment (RMG) manufacturing facility in Khordha.

The project forms part of the company’s broader ₹1,225 crore capacity expansion and modernisation plan and represents a significant investment in employment-intensive apparel manufacturing in eastern India.

45 Million Garments Annual Capacity

The proposed Khordha facility is planned to have an annual production capacity of approximately 45 million garments. The project is targeted for commissioning in Q1 FY2027-28, subject to the required approvals and implementation timelines.

The investment is expected to create around 5,000 direct employment opportunities, while generating thousands of additional indirect jobs across the wider ecosystem, including MSMEs, logistics, packaging, transportation and allied services.

Strengthening Odisha’s Textile Manufacturing Ambition

KPR Mill’s investment comes at a time when Odisha is actively positioning itself as a major textile and apparel manufacturing hub. The state’s focus on employment-intensive industries, supported by initiatives such as Odisha TEX, is aimed at attracting large-scale investments and developing an integrated textile ecosystem.

For Odisha, the proposed facility could provide an important boost to local manufacturing capabilities while creating opportunities for the development of supporting industries and supplier networks.

Large-scale apparel manufacturing can also have a substantial impact on women’s employment, particularly by creating factory-level opportunities in garment production, quality control and related functions.

Integrated Manufacturing Advantage

KPR Mill is among India’s prominent vertically integrated textile companies, with capabilities spanning yarn, fabrics, processing and apparel manufacturing. Its integrated ecosystem enables the company to serve domestic and international markets while maintaining greater control over its manufacturing value chain.

The Khordha investment therefore has the potential to extend KPR Mill’s manufacturing footprint while simultaneously strengthening Odisha’s position within the national and global apparel supply chain.

Execution Will Be the Key

While the ₹450 crore investment signals strong confidence in Odisha’s industrial ecosystem, the next phase will be execution.

Timely approvals, quality industrial infrastructure, reliable utilities, workforce development and efficient logistics will be critical in translating the proposed investment into jobs, production capacity and export opportunities.

The project also highlights a broader shift underway in Odisha — from positioning itself primarily as an investment destination to developing the capabilities required to become a competitive manufacturing destination.

With large-scale textile and apparel investments gaining momentum, Odisha could increasingly emerge as one of the key growth centres for India’s eastern apparel manufacturing ecosystem.

For KPR Mill, the Khordha project marks another step in its capacity expansion journey. For Odisha, it could become another important milestone in building a large, employment-driven textile and apparel manufacturing base.
