India’s textile & garment exports SOAR 7%

According to the recent data compiled by India’s Union Ministry of Textiles, textile and garment exports from the country increased by 7 percent to Rs. 1,600 billion.

The surge happened during April to November 2018 period compared to exports of Rs. 1,492 billion in the same period last fiscal.

In dollar terms, exports from India remained flat at US $ 23.18 billion.

It is also being said that the textile and garment exports growth remained reasonable in November 2018, after registering a sharp inclination of 38 percent in October. The reason back then was the volatility in the rupee-dollar exchange rate.

In October, textile and garment exports fetched Rs. 189.65 billion as against Rs. 167.07 billion in the corresponding month of 2017. In dollar terms, exports were US $ 2.64 billion, up by 2 percent over US $ 2.57 billion last year.

Category-wise, textile exports increased by 9 percent to Rs. 108.53 billion in November 2018 versus Rs. 99.87 billion in the corresponding month of 2017. Meanwhile, garment exports surged 21 percent to Rs. 81.12 billion in November 2018 from Rs. 67.20 billion.
