In a bid to offer better lives to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in the rural India, Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission (TNSRLM), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) have jointly taken an initiative to train people in the apparel manufacturing sector.
“The rural candidates will get job opportunities while the companies will get skilled candidates. For the Government, the rural people’s livelihood and the economy could be developed, it’ll be a win-win situation for all,” reportedly said Raja M Shanmugham, President, TEA.
Under the agreement, rural poor will be trained in technical and managerial jobs in the RMG sector.
The training will be provided at NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, with a vision of making skilled professionals for the knitwear industry.
“The candidates will be trained in skills, such as apparel machine engineers, under the 6-month training course. As per the MoU, the trainees will then be absorbed by TEA member unit,” G Kumaran, State Programme Manager of TNSRLM, told a leading media house.
Under the MoU, it has been defined that the project will also monitor the trained candidates after they are placed in the apparel firms for one year with all due support in the profession.
