Amazon.com smashes biggest festive season

Amazon is releshing after a record-breaking holiday season this year, as sales growth was driven by the fashion category, where athleisure continues to be a strong trend.

The online retailer saw more items ordered worldwide than ever before, it announced, with shoppers plumping for products such as the company’s all-new Echo Dot, the L.O.L. Surprise! Glam Glitter Series Doll, and fashion pieces from Carhartt, among others.

“This season was our best yet, and we look forward to continuing to bring our customers what they want, in ways most convenient for them in 2019.” said Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer, in a statement. “We are thrilled that in the U.S. alone, more than one billion items shipped for free this holiday with Prime.”

Fashion was one of the main drivers behind the spending spree, with shoppers opting for brands such as Amazon Essentials, Daily Ritual and Goodthreads, in addition to Calvin Klein, Champion, and UGG.

Athleisure proved to be a top trend this festive season, with brands such as Champion, Alo Yoga, Nike, Adidas and Monrow amongst the most popular, while Amazon Essentials, Simple Joys by Carter’s, Adidas, Columbia, and Nike amongst the most-selected fashion brands added to Amazon Wish Lists.
