Faria Yasmin Makes History as First Bangladeshi Woman to Lead Bata

Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Limited has appointed Faria Yasmin as its new Managing Director, marking a historic milestone as the first Bangladeshi resident and the first woman to head the multinational footwear company’s operations in the country. She will officially take charge on 20 November 2025, succeeding Debabrata Mukherjee, who will move on to lead another multinational.

Faria brings over 23 years of leadership experience in brand marketing, portfolio management, and business operations across Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. She previously served as Chief Business Officer at ACI PLC and has held key roles at Reckitt Benckiser, Marico, and Nestlé, equipping her with extensive expertise in driving business growth and brand strategy.

Her appointment comes at a critical time for Bata Bangladesh, which recently reported a Tk 9.64 crore loss in the April–June quarter of 2025, a significant decline from a Tk 18.78 crore profit in the same period last year. Revenue dropped 40% to Tk 158 crore, while first-half revenue fell 5% to Tk 514.66 crore, and net profit declined 27% to Tk 27.18 crore.

With her deep understanding of Bangladeshi consumer dynamics, Faria is expected to spearhead Bata’s turnaround strategy, revitalize the brand, and strengthen its local market position. Her leadership is seen as a key driver in adapting global strategies to the local market and setting the stage for sustainable growth in Bangladesh.
