450 textile dyeing and printing units to deploy energy-efficient measures

450 textile dyeing and printing units located in Surat, Gujarat, a textile manufacturing hub in India, will commence the implementation of energy-efficient procedures.

Ministry of MSME and South Gujarat Textile Processors’ Association (SGTPA) have even inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for providing technology support for the modernization of the textile mills.

The tranformation is a part of ‘promoting market transformation for energy efficiency in MSME’, a joint initiative conceptualized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the office of the development commissioner of MSME.

The target is to create a revolving fund mechanism as a means to make certain replication of energy-efficient measures in the Indian textile industry.

Jitu Vakharia, President, SGTPA reportedly said: “The project will provide energy and water conservation solutions for the textile mills, thereby saving about 15 percent of water and energy requirement in the industry.”

The existing machinery will be replaced or modernized. For that, the factory owners will have to spend 20 percent of the total expenditure of replacement of the machinery, the rest will be paid by the Government.
