Retail veteran brings extensive leadership experience across Australia and North America to the New Zealand retailer’s board

The Warehouse Group has appointed Carrie Kirkman as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective November 1, 2026, adding significant retail leadership and corporate governance experience to its board.

The appointment was announced by executive search firm Hobson Leavy. Kirkman brings a broad background in retail management, with expertise spanning merchandising, marketing, brand development, customer proposition and business transformation across Australia and North America.

Kirkman most recently served as Chief Merchandise and Marketing Officer at Target Australia, where she held responsibility for key areas of the retailer’s commercial and brand strategy. Her career also includes senior executive positions at Sears Canada and Jones Group Canada, along with interim chief executive appointments.

Beyond her executive career, Kirkman has developed substantial board-level experience through governance and chair positions at White House Design, G(irls)20 and the Canadian Club of Toronto. Her combination of operational leadership and board experience is expected to bring valuable perspectives to The Warehouse Group as it advances its strategic priorities.

Commenting on her appointment, Kirkman said her professional journey had focused on understanding customer needs, developing compelling merchandise and brand propositions, and leading retail transformation.

She expressed enthusiasm about joining the board of a business that holds a significant place in the everyday lives of New Zealanders. Kirkman also thanked Chair John Journee and her fellow directors for welcoming her to the organisation.

Her appointment comes as retail businesses continue to navigate changing consumer expectations, evolving brand strategies and the need for sustained business transformation. Her experience across multiple markets and retail organisations is expected to contribute to the board’s discussions on customer engagement, commercial performance and long-term business development.

With Kirkman joining the board from November 1, The Warehouse Group adds an experienced retail executive with international exposure and a track record across merchandising, marketing and governance to its leadership team.
