H&M is world’s largest user of sustainable cotton, man-made cellulosic material

World’s leading fashion retail brand Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) has emerged to be the biggest user of sustainable cotton and man-made cellulosic materials. This was mentioned by Textile Exchange, a non-profit, in its annual ‘Preferred Fiber Materials Market Report’.

Not only this, Textile Exchange’s report states that H&M is also the world’s leading user of sustainably sourced down and wool.

It is pertinent to mention here that H&M has planned to only use recycled or sustainably sourced materials by the year 2030. “We believe that a business model fueled by sustainable materials that can be reused again and again is the only way to keep fashion sustainable,” the fashion brand said.

Additionally, H&M aims to use cotton from sustainable sources only in the next two years.

The brand also releases H&M Conscious Exclusive Collection every year where it introduces new sustainable materials into its range, such as recycled cashmere, recycled velvet made from recycled polyester…

“With our yearly and steady increased use of recycled or other sustainably sourced materials, we not only push the demand of widely used materials such as organic cotton, but also influence the scalability of new sustainable materials,” averred Cecilia Brännsten, Environmental Sustainability Manager, H&M.
