Gildan Completes Landmark Acquisition of HanesBrands, Forming a Global Apparel Powerhouse

Gildan Activewear Inc. has officially completed its acquisition of HanesBrands Inc., marking one of the most significant consolidation moves in the global apparel industry. The combined entity brings together iconic brands, expanded geographic reach, and a powerful vertically integrated manufacturing network that positions Gildan as a dominant force across activewear, innerwear, and everyday essentials.

Glenn J. Chamandy, President and CEO of Gildan, described the acquisition as a transformational moment. He noted that merging HanesBrands’ renowned portfolio with Gildan’s world-class, low-cost, vertically integrated platform doubles the company’s scale and strengthens its capabilities across multiple categories and channels. Chamandy emphasized that the integration will be collaborative and seamless, with a targeted delivery of at least $200 million in run-rate cost synergies, as previously announced.

With a diverse brand ecosystem that now includes Gildan, Hanes, Comfort Colors, American Apparel, Maidenform, Bonds, and more, the combined company will serve retailers, wholesalers, printwear professionals, and e-commerce platforms across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. Backed by large-scale manufacturing hubs in Central America, the Caribbean, North America, and Asia, Gildan continues to commit to industry-leading ESG practices embedded in its long-term strategy.

The completion of this acquisition signals the beginning of a new era for Gildan one defined by expanded capabilities, enhanced innovation potential, and strengthened global leadership in the basics and lifestyle apparel market.
