Puma taps Rs. 1000 Cr retail sales in India

German sportswear brand subsidiary Puma India fetched over Rs. 1,000 crore in retail sales in India for a period of 12 months ending December 2018.

To be precise, the sportswear retailer generated Rs. 1,157 crore during the period. In the similar months of the prior year, Puma India sales were Rs. 958 crore.

“2018 has been a great year for us. Globally there is huge momentum in the brand. We are making strong progress in both Sports Performance and Sport Style categories,” Puma India’s Managing Director Abhishek Ganguly said.

So what contributed to the growth of the company? The surge in income, online sales and strong performance in the women’s segment garnered growth for the company.

“Women’s segment is a key element of our strategy. There are paradigm shifts happening in the India women’s lifestyle, evolving their buying behaviour. We have also tripled our sales through puma.com in this year,” Ganguly added.

The company has partnered with celebrities like Virat Kohli in India and Selena Gomez, Rihanna, and Jay-Z overseas. The huge fan following of these celebs has also helped Puma grow.

Recently, Puma inked a pact with World Boxing Champion Mary Kom to be the Brand Ambassador. She will be representing the women’s segment.
