Veejay Verma Joins Gokyo as Business Head – Retail & Expansion

Gokyo, the fast‑growing Indian outdoor apparel and gear brand, has appointed Veejay Verma as its Business Head – Retail & Expansion, marking a significant step as the brand accelerates its omnichannel growth strategy.

In his new role, Verma will oversee the development and execution of Gokyo’s offline retail strategy—including exclusive brand outlets and franchise operations—alongside broader business development initiatives as Gokyo looks to scale across India.

Verma joins from BESTSELLER India, where he served as Category Manager overseeing strategic planning and brand development for labels such as Jack & Jones, Vero Moda, ONLY, and Selected Homme. He notably led the launch of UNMATCHED by Jack & Jones, India’s first premium made‑to‑order fashion concept, transforming it from a digital‑first idea into a full omnichannel brand.

His expertise in brand transformation, customer engagement, omnichannel retail, and operational strategy positions him well to help Gokyo solidify its presence in a competitive and dynamic outdoor lifestyle market segment.

Founded in 2022, Gokyo offers technical outdoor gear tailored for India’s varied climates and terrains. Its portfolio includes signature lines such as Explorer, Alpine, and Sherpa—combining functionality with style to cater to urban explorers, serious trekkers, spiritual tourists, and outdoor travellers alike.

The appointment comes as part of Gokyo’s broader strategy: the brand plans to launch over 30 retail locations (including exclusive stores and shop‑in‑shops) by the end of FY 2026, targeting key markets such as Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chennai.

Simultaneously, Gokyo is seeking to raise approximately $1.5 million in angel funding in Q4 of FY25 to support both online and offline expansion, aiming to open 10 new outlets initially and later scale up to 100 stores with VC backing.

Verma’s role puts him at the centre of this expansive vision—helping to translate capital and strategy into consumer‑facing retail experiences.

With Verma at the helm of retail and expansion, Gokyo is betting on a dual strategy: aggressive brick‑and‑mortar growth coupled with strengthening partnerships through shop‑in‑shop models and improved online distribution across platforms such as Myntra, Ajio, and Nykaa Fashion.

This move underscores the company’s ambition to become a Rs 100 crore‑plus brand in the next five years, delivering at least triple‑year growth and broadening its consumer reach across India’s outdoor and adventure market.
