This Indian state plans country’s 1st Textile University

The Indian state of Maharashtra has been a dream destination to many to make their career in respective fields. Staying true to its nature, the State Government’s Cooperation, Marketing and Textile Department has proposed to open a Textile University at Harpur in South Nagpur.

Media reports claim that it will be the first-of-its-kind in India if the proposal is accepted, said State Textiles Secretary Atul Patne. The Minister added that as 80 percent of power loom industry in India is in Maharashtra, a Textile University here will push the sector to a brighter future.

It is being said that the University will offer courses on power loom, handloom, spinning mills, silk and hosiery.

Further, the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has been appointed as the nodal agency for planning and construction of the University. It will reportedly be constructed on the State Handloom Corporation’s two-acre land in the region.
