Sandeep Kataria

Sandeep Kataria, the Global CEO of Switzerland-based Bata Corporation, has resigned after nearly five years at the helm, according to media reports. Kataria, who made history as the first Indian to lead the global footwear brand, will remain in his role for the next six months to ensure a seamless leadership transition.

Kataria’s journey with Bata began in August 2017 when he was appointed CEO of Bata India. Under his leadership, the company underwent a significant transformation, evolving from a legacy brand into a modern, aspirational choice for younger consumers.

During his tenure at Bata India:

  • Revenue rose from ₹2,636 crore to ₹3,053 crore within three years.

  • Net profit surged 46% to ₹327 crore.

  • Footwear volumes consistently posted double-digit growth.

He introduced bold marketing initiatives like “Surprisingly Bata,” repositioning the brand to appeal to millennials and Gen Z consumers. His efforts modernized the brand’s image through memory foam insoles, redesigned stores, e-commerce integration, home delivery, and even the introduction of in-store pedicure chairs—bringing innovation and customer experience to the forefront.

Before joining Bata, Kataria built a distinguished career across multiple industries:

  • Unilever – Over 17 years in sales, marketing, and global roles in FMCG.

  • Yum! Brands – Spearheaded brand initiatives for KFC and Pizza Hut.

  • Vodafone India – Played a key role in telecom marketing and digital campaigns.

The company is expected to announce his successor shortly, with a formal succession plan already in motion.
