National Khadi Festival 2018 begins in India to boost sales, promote khadi products

India’s Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is organising National Khadi Festival 2018 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to increase khadi sales. The aim is to promote the products of cottage industry and create awareness about fashionable khaid range from different Indian states.

The range includes khadi clothing, sarees, dress material, kurtas, jackets, bedsheets, carpets, and other household products. The festival expects participation from over 100 institutions across the country.

At the current festival, the target has been kept at Rs. 2 crore. A markdown of 30 percent is also being offered on khadi and polyester products, to bolster sales.

Notably, KVIC had collaborated with India’s major branded apparel and textile maker Raymond which bought fabric worth Rs. 90 million in FY 2017-18 from the board.

The textile company has already placed an order for khadi fabric worth Rs. 400 million with KVIC for 2018-19. Markedly, in the previous fiscal, the khadi products in India reached Rs. 59,098 crore from Rs. 52,138 crore in the FY 2016-17.
