More and more garment factories in Myanmar exporting to EU

The number of readymade garment (RMG) factories in Myanmar that export products to the European Union (EU) has increased by 180 within five years from 22 in 2013 to 202 at the moment.

This is primarily due to benefits offered by the EU’s generalized system of preferences (GSP), according to Aung Naing Oo, director general of department of investment and companies administration (DICA).

The total number of factories of all kinds rose from 24 to 305 over the same period. While the 24 factories created 23,000 jobs in 2013, the 305 factories have created 300,000 jobs, reportedly.

60 percent of the cut-make-pack (CMP) garment factories are Chinese investments and mainly export to EU countries, stated the EU Everything But Arms Monitoring Mission.
