Textile Minister of Maharashtra, Arjun Khotkar has made a big statement at the 10th edition of Annual Textile conference ‘FICCI-TAG 2018’. The Minister said that Maharashtra will become the exporter of silk in the next 5 years.
Khotar stated that the new textile policy will play a key role as it provides various incentives and support for the promotion of the sector. He said, “Currently, we import 8000 metric tonnes of raw silk due to higher demand and shortage of silk production in India, however, Maharashtra alone will be able to wipe out this deficit and export raw silk in next 4-5 years”.
The Minister also mentioned that post Nandgaonpeth Textile Park success in Amaravati, nine more textile parks will be set up.
At the event, Khotkar also released the FICCI-Wazir Advisors report on Building a New Age Textile Industry during the seminar.
The report underline the need for achieving growth through innovation and technology and Aligning Textile Value Chain with Global Demand for increasing share of India’s export in total global trade.
It stated that the textile and garment industry in India will grow strongly because of changing demographic dividend, increasing consumer prosperity, emerging new categories for consumption, growth of technical textiles, increasing penetration of organised retail, positive impact of GST in long term. Also, increasing exports to the US and slowdown in China’s exports will be beneficial.
