US-based global fashion innovations company Alvanon has released its latest report ‘The State of Skills in the Apparel Industry 2018’, which highlights that the fashion industry is facing a crisis in terms of skilled professionals.
The objective of the report is to show up the workforce challenges faced by the industry.
The company collaborated with 13 apparel organisations to conduct the survey and understand skills gaps, learning, and skill development the industry needs today. The report represents views of 642 executives, HR leaders, industry practitioners, and employees across the international supply chain from North America, Asia-Pacific, Central and South America, Europe and others.
One of the prime issues that the global brands and vendors are coming across is the hiring of workers with the right skill sets, with 62 percent of respondents saying so.
The report also states that respondents are discontented with the training being provided to workers to enhance skills, and 30 per cent are extremely disappointed.
“As the apparel industry begins to recognise and implement digitalisation as a way of delivering on speed, customisation and transparency, it is revealing gaps in the specialised skills set of its workforce. Our survey findings conclude that failure to respond to skill shortages will result in the generalisation of poor market practices and adversely impact business performance across the supply chain,” Janice Wang, CEO of Alvanon said.
Alvanon further mentions that the essentials for business include employee engagement activities and provide them with professional development.
