Bangladesh Parliament clears ‘Textile Bill 2018’

Bangladesh Parliament has passed Textile Bill 2018 recently. Mirza Azam, State Minister for Textiles and Jute, presented the bill in the assembly which was then passed by voice vote on September 12, 2018.

The new textile policy aims to uphold the quality of textile products as the country fetches huge foreign currency from garment exports. According to the draft law, a directorate will be created which will be head by a Director General (DG), who will be selected by the Government itself.

The Directorate will be accountable for the inspection of quality and standard of a range of fundamentals indulged in textile products comprising paint and other chemicals.

A laboratory will also be established to carry out the inspection and standard tests.

The agenda is to keep quality on top in manufacturing of textiles. Under the law, the registration of any company can be suspended or even cancelled on giving false information while getting listed.

The move will ensure export of quality products from Bangladesh and thereby increase the credibility of the country. This will in turn increase investment in the country as well, as it will focus more on quality which is in demand today among the global buyers.
