Cambodia aids 42K expectant garment workers with US $ 4.15 Mn

Cambodian garment manufacturing industry has been in news of late, be it due to accidental cases of workers or protests over wages. However, the latest news appears to be a delight. The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen has said that the Government has spent US $ 4.15 million on 42,000 pregnant garment workers who have given birth to 43,000 babies.

The Premier also updated that the Government gives US $ 100 in bonus for every baby delivered by a garment worker.

Notably, the Government has set an annual outlay of US $ 10 million to support expectant garment workers in the country which employs over 800,000 workers, most of whom are female.

There’s also a law in Cambodia, under which the owners of the garment companies should grant pregnant workers with the tenure commencing from three months can leave from the place of work at least 15 minutes before time for well-being of herself.
