The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) highlighted significant opportunities for Indian garment exporters in Japan, a market with total garment imports valued at $23 billion. Despite this, India’s share is currently only 1.37%. To capitalize on the free trade agreement (FTA) between India and Japan, AEPC is leading a delegation to the India Tex Trend Fair (ITTF) in Tokyo, running from July 23.
The three-day event will feature over 200 exhibitors, including renowned Japanese brands such as Sumitomo Corporation, MUJI, and Mitsubishi, seeking diverse apparel options.
AEPC Chairman Sudhir Sekhri emphasized Japan’s position as the fourth-largest garment importer globally and the advantages of duty-free access for Indian apparel compared to higher duties for competitors like Turkey and China.
With a declining share of Chinese imports, Indian suppliers are well-positioned to fill the gap, offering flexibility for both small and large orders.
