Home furnishing brand IKEA to create 10K new jobs in India

Swedish furniture mammoth Ikea is considering to employ 10,000 staff in Maharashtra (India) by 2020-21. The positions will be for e-commerce, sales, logistics, digital and human resources.

“Next year, we are opening the Navi Mumbai store. We are planning to recruit 5,000 directly and an equal number of people will be employed indirectly in the state over the two to three years,” Anna-Carin Mansson, People and Culture Manager, IKEA India, reportedly said.

It is being reported that the to-be hired employees will be deployed at the imminent store as well as the assembling services centres and supply chain networks in Maharashtra.

“With our employee-friendly policies, we are expecting to keep the attrition levels very low. We believe in value-based recruitment, where the core values of an individual is considered and not what is said in the CV. We provide equal opportunities to all our co-workers, help them grow and enable them to follow their passion,” she added.

Around 2,500 staff will be appointed by mid-2019. Notably, 50 percent of employees will be women.

“We believe in equality and providing a balanced, safe and secure work environment for all employees. We are also open for recruiting from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities,” Mansson averred.

Maharashtra is an important market for Ikea. The company has been sourcing from the state for many decades and now it is keen to explore the retail aspect of the market.
