TEA Meeting Highlights Strategies to Enhance Domestic Knitwear Production and Marketing

At a recent meeting hosted by the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA), President K.M. Subramanian led pivotal discussions aimed at bolstering the domestic production and marketing of knitwear garments. The event gathered key industry leaders, including TEA Domestic Sub-Committee Chairman Prem Aggarwal, alongside experts and domestic manufacturers.

Notable attendees included TEA General Secretary N. Thirukkumaran, Joint Secretary Kumar Duraiswamy, Chairman of the Man-Made Fibre Sub-Committee Arun Ramasamy, Vice Chairman A. Sunilkumar, and several executive committee members. Special invitees such as Prem Shikka, founder of Dixcy, Rahul Todi, Managing Director of Lux Industries, and Ravichandran, General Secretary of the Domestic Knitwear Manufacturers Association, also contributed their insights. Prominent knitwear manufacturers like M. Manikandan of Ohms Fusion Knitwear were among the participants.

In his opening address, Kumar Duraiswamy pointed out that Tirupur’s official domestic knitwear production figure of ₹25,000 crore is likely an underestimate, suggesting that actual production numbers are significantly higher.

Thirukkumaran emphasized that India’s growing economy and rising per capita income present a golden opportunity for exporters to tap into the domestic market. Prem Aggarwal highlighted the importance of understanding the complexities of the Indian apparel market to fully realize its potential.

Ravichandran called for TEA’s active support in assisting domestic manufacturers, while A. Sunilkumar outlined the domestic market’s impressive growth over the past five years and forecasted strong prospects for the next five, pointing to a bright future for the sector.

This meeting marks a decisive move towards strengthening the domestic knitwear industry, with collaborative efforts set to drive its future growth.
