Bangladesh eyes US $ 100 Bn in garment exports

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said that the country is capable of exporting US $ 100 billion worth of garments by the year 2024. The Minister said so as the international garment retailers are placing an increased number of orders.

“By 2021, when Bangladesh will also celebrate its 50th anniversary, we will be able to export garment items worth US $ 50 billion. Now we are in the second position in garment exports globally after China. We have immense potential for bagging more work orders.”

In 2018, garment shipments earned Bangladesh US $ 30.61 billion, according to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

Additionally, Bangladesh Government is setting up 100 Special Economic Zones to further increase exports from the country.
