Urban Haats for Handicraft Artisans and Handloom Weavers

Currently Indian cities have 31 operational Urban Haats and 5 more are under construction in the country to enable artisans and handloom weavers sell their products directly. This was declared by the Minister of State, Textiles, Shri Ajay Tamta in a written reply to a Lok Sabha. Tamta also declared the Government’s intention to increase the number of Urban Haats and Mini Urban Haats listing the proposals which have been received for establishment of Urban Haats. Proposals include one each for Kardo village and Poma village, in Arunachal Pradesh, Tuli in Nagaland, Gaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Amritsar in Punjab. Two proposals for Mini Urban Haats have also been received from Nagaland and Chhattisgarh.
