May 04, 2017

A CAG report had revealed that the Andhra Pradesh state Government is lagging behind in the construction of textile and apparel parks. Several textile and apparel parks construction remains incomplete as per the report. No units have been developed in two textile parks till now and the only unit started in Rayadurg of Anantapur district still remains idle. Development of these parks was intended to increase employment and export of textiles/ apparels. However, there has been delays ranging from 23 to 156 months in establishment of these parks due to a variety of reasons like improper selection of the site, delay in transfer of lands to Department of Handlooms and Textiles, noncompletion of infrastructure facilities and so on. The report points out a 24 to 100% shortfall in setting up of these units and a 74 to 100% shortfall in the targeted employment generation. Since 2002-03 efforts were on to develop textile and apparel parks under different schemes, construction of 11 such parks were taken up by the State Government.
